  1. Health Plans

    • In 2019, your national medical plan options will include the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) Health Savings Account (HSA) and the Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans, just like in 2018. If you live in California, your options also include the Kaiser Health Maintenance Organization (HMO).
    • Good news! For the large majority of our employees who are covered under the BCBSTX medical plans, paycheck contributions will remain the same as in 2018. Deductibles, coinsurance, and annual maximums for all medical plan options are not changing.
    • If you are covered under the Kaiser HMO (California only), your paycheck cost will increase $4 to $18, depending on the plan option and who you cover. These increases reflect the claims paid on behalf of all plan participants over the last year and medical inflation.
    • BCBSTX will issue new ID cards for 2019. Watch your home mail in late December for your new card(s).
    • HSA Plan: Express Scripts, manager of prescription drugs under our BCBSTX plans, is updating the HSA Plan preventive medication list for 2019. Drug lists can and do change annually, so it’s always good to check the list before you fill a prescription. Review the changes here or call Express Scripts Member Services at 1-877-577-2523.
    • Paycheck costs for Vision Plan coverage will increase 2%.
    • Delta Dental will issue new ID cards for 2019. Watch your home mail in late December for your new card(s).

  2. Rocking Good Savings on Health Care

If you participated in the bWell Rocks Tour—the 2017-2018 BMC Wellness Program—and completed reward levels two or three by the July 31, 2018 deadline, you earned a $200 or $500 discount on your paycheck costs for medical in 2019. The Enroll in Your Benefits page on YBR will show the discounts you have earned.

The Popular Choice: 85% of BMC employees choose the HSA Plan for their medical coverage.

  3. More Tax-Free Savings

    HSA Contribution Limit Increases

The IRS has increased the HSA contribution limit for those with HSA Plan medical coverage. Starting in January 2019, contribution limits are:

    • Up to $3,500 for individual coverage ($50 more than last year), and
    • Up to $7,000 for family coverage ($100 more than last year).

The limits include what BMC contributes and what you (or anyone else) contribute to your account. Also, if your spouse has his/her own HSA, your combined contribution totals are subject to the family contribution limit.

BMC will once again contribute to your HSA at the same level as 2018 if you remain covered under the HSA medical plan. Company contributions are made semi-annually, half in January and the other half in July.

If your base salary is $75,000 or less If your base salary is more than $75,000
You-Only Coverage Other Coverage Levels You-Only Coverage Other Coverage Levels
    BMC Contributes $750 $1,500 $500 $1,000
You Contribute Up to $2,750 Up to $5,500 Up to $3,000 Up to $6,000
    Total 2019 contribution allowed by the IRS (yours and BMC's) $3,500 $7,000 $3,500 $7,000

If you are age 55 or older anytime during 2019, you can contribute an additional $1,000 to your HSA.

    Health Care FSA Limit Increase

You can contribute up to $2,650 (up from $2,600) in your Health Care Flexible Spending Account (HCFSA) for 2019. Remember, you can roll forward up to $500 in your HCFSA at the end of the year. Choose your contributions carefully. You cannot make any changes to your contributions until next year’s Annual Enrollment, unless you have a qualifying event like marriage, a new baby, or divorce.

You must sign up to contribute to the HSA and FSAs every year, even if you are not making any other changes to your benefits elections.

    Review Your Retirement Savings, Too

BMC believes that supporting your financial well-being is just as important as helping you reach and maintain your best physical and emotional health. Annual Enrollment is mainly focused on your health and welfare benefits. But while you’re making important decisions about your health, take a few extra minutes to give your BMC 401(k) account an annual checkup too.

    • Are you saving enough to meet your income needs in retirement?
    • Can you increase your contributions by 1% in 2019?
    • Can you save enough to get the full match from BMC?
    • Are your beneficiary designations up to date?

  4. Resources for Your Well-Being

BMC and our health care partners offer a variety of programs that can help you and your family identify health risks, manage chronic conditions, save money and lead a healthier life. These programs are offered at no cost to you and include:

    • Healthcare Bluebook™ and Best Doctors® — to help you shop smart for health care services and make informed decisions about your health. Get the details.
    • Blue Distinction Centers (BDCs) — for assurance that you are choosing a quality facility to have your procedure. BDCs are health care facilities that have a proven record of providing effective care, including lower rates of surgical complications and readmissions. This successful approach to high-cost medical procedures continues to help you save money and receive better care. Visit bcbstx.com to find a BDC near you.
    • Condition Management — for specially trained nurses who provide personalized support and self-care tips for specific chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes and heart disease. Get the details.
  5. Pay Less for Extra Life Insurance

Beginning January 1, 2019, per paycheck contributions for Supplemental Life Insurance will decrease. Annual enrollment is a good opportunity to evaluate your life insurance needs and decide if you should elect more coverage. Evidence of insurability is required if you elect more than $500,000 of coverage.

When you view your paycheck premiums in the Benefits Enrollment section of Your Benefits Resources, your cost will reflect the lower insurance premium rates applicable to your age and smoking status.

  6. New Claims Administrator for Life and Disability Insurance

Earlier this year, Lincoln National Insurance acquired Liberty Life Assurance, the claims administrator for BMC life and disability insurance benefits. The ownership change does not affect your benefits. However, if you submit a claim or make an inquiry to the company, you may receive correspondence from either company during the ownership transition.

  7. Do I Need to Enroll?

Not sure if you need to enroll? Use this checklist for help. If you check ANY of these boxes, you need to enroll.

    I Want To:

    • Opt out of BMC’s medical plans.
    • Change my medical plan.
    • Contribute to a Health Savings Account (HSA medical plan only). To contribute to an HSA, you must elect your contribution amount each year.
    • Participate in a Flexible Spending Account (FSA). To participate in an FSA, you must enroll each year. This includes:
      • Health Care FSA
      • Dependent Care FSA
      • Limited Purpose FSA (with the HSA medical plan only)
    • Add or remove a dependent. Please note: You are required to submit supporting documents verifying any dependent you are adding (marriage certificate, birth certificate, etc.) or your dependent(s) will not be covered.
    • Increase or decrease coverage. For example, increase from Employee + Spouse coverage to Family coverage.
    • Add, increase, or decrease Supplemental Life Insurance coverage.
    • Add or remove a Voluntary Benefit:
      • Identity Theft Protection
      • Pet Insurance
      • Group Legal
  8. If You Don’t Enroll by November 9

Even if you are happy with your current coverage, we encourage you to review your enrollment elections this year.

If you do not enroll by November 9, 2018, your 2018 benefit elections will carry over, except:

    • HSA - You must make a new HSA contribution election each year, but you can change your contribution amount anytime during the year.
    • FSA - You must re-enroll in the Health Care and/or Dependent Care FSA each year during Annual Enrollment to participate.
  9. How to Enroll

Complete these steps between October 29 and November 9 to get the coverage that’s right for you and your family.

    • The easiest way to access your benefits and enroll is through the MyBMC Rewards website. Log on and select Enroll Now! to go to Your Benefits Resources™(YBR).
    • Once you’re on the YBR website, you’ll be guided through simple steps that will help you make good decisions. Use the online tools, like the Medical Expense Estimator, to help you understand the impact of your choices.
    • Review your benefits decisions and paycheck contributions to be sure they reflect your choices.
    • Click the Complete Enrollment button to submit your benefit elections. If YBR has your valid email address on file (under Your Profile), you'll receive an email confirmation of your elections.
    • After Annual Enrollment, you'll receive a confirmation statement in your home mail. Check it carefully!
    • If you find any mistakes, call the Benefits Center immediately. If you don’t correct any errors before December 28, 2018, you won’t be able to change your elections for 2019 unless you have a qualifying event, like marriage, a new baby, or divorce.

If you leave the YBR website before submitting all of your elections, your benefit choices will not be saved. Look for the "Completed Successfully" message to signal that your enrollment is completed, and print this page as confirmation of enrollment.

If You Are Adding a New Dependent

If you add a new dependent to your coverage for 2019 during Annual Enrollment, you will need to verify your dependent’s eligibility. YBR will send you a verification request notice and package at your home address. Follow the instructions in the package and respond by the deadline. If you do not complete and return the requested documents, your dependents will be ineligible for coverage and dropped from BMC benefits.
